My Program

What makes John Bernard Guitar Studio so unique in the art of guitar instruction? Although playing experience and working as a teacher and business owner certainly help, I believe there’s more to it than that. What sets me apart is that I’ve developed a systematic program of instruction — one that is specifically designed to meet the needs of beginning and intermediate level students of the guitar. Why is that so important? As we all know, a good beginning often means the difference between success and failure in any endeavor.

One of the unique features of my program is the emphasis I place on singing. Although this may seem to be unrelated to learning the guitar, over the years I’ve seen that using the voice and fingers together actually accelerates and deepens the learning process.

Singing while playing also appears to be more gratifying for students than simply rattling off snippets of rock songs. However, I make it clear to all students that my intention is not to make them good singers, but simply to help them gain the confidence to use their voices to accompany themselves while playing — something their audience will also appreciate.

If a structured program that includes music history, theory, singing, music reading, technique, and an exploration of musicianship sounds like it makes sense, then John Bernard Guitar Studio could be the right place for you or your child to learn guitar. For more information, contact me to arrange a time to visit and see first hand what it’s all about.

I accept students of all ages and abilities and my goal is to help students — regardless of natural talent — experience the joy of music and the many benefits it can bring to a life. Listen to what some of my current and former students have to say:
